Prickly pear

Description

Prickly pear is a fleshly pulp berry with a typical thick peel and a yellow or red pulp rich of seeds. The colour changes depending on the variety: yellow-orange for the “sulfarina”; purplish red for “sanguigna” and white for “muscaredda”. Its shape is also very variable, not only for the variety, but also in relation to the formation period: the first fruits are roundish; the later ones have an elongated and pedunculated shape. Each fruit contains many seeds, even 300 for a 160g fruit. Very sweet, those fruits are edible and have an excellent taste. Once peeled and deprived of the tips you can keep on the refrigerator and eat cold.
